The Sanctuary of Santa Caterina del Sasso [15 minutes by boat and 55Km by car], was built in the rocks in the late twelfth century by Alberto Besozzi from Arolo, a merchant who retired there to lead a life of a recluse. It's one of the most suggestive sites on the lake, where the view encompasses the Piedmont shoreline as far as the Borromeo Gulf and the Mottarone peak.
Angera's fortress with the Doll's Museum [boat distance from the Resort], is the Fortress that was originally built by the Visconti family. It houses the admirably frescoed Sala di Giustizia and the Castellana Tower, from which to admire a amazing view on the lake. The fortress or “Rocca” became property of the Borromeo family in 1449 and they converted it into their residence. In 1988 the first Italian Museo della Bambola (Dolls's Museum) was inaugurated inside this medieval building.
