Art, History & Culture

  • Isola Bella 04
  • Angera
  • Santa Caterina del Sasso 01
  • S. Caterina del Sasso 02

The Sanctuary of Santa Caterina del Sasso [15 minutes by boat and 55Km by car], was built in the rocks in the late twelfth century by Alberto Besozzi from Arolo, a merchant who retired there to lead a life of a recluse. It's one of the most suggestive sites on the lake, where the view encompasses the Piedmont shoreline as far as the Borromeo Gulf and the Mottarone peak.

Angera's fortress with the Doll's Museum [boat distance from the Resort], is the Fortress that was originally built by the Visconti family. It houses the admirably frescoed Sala di Giustizia and the Castellana Tower, from which to admire a amazing view on the lake. The fortress or “Rocca” became property of the Borromeo family in 1449 and they converted it into their residence. In 1988 the first Italian Museo della Bambola (Dolls's Museum) was inaugurated inside this medieval building.

We suggest a pleasant stroll in the heart of Milan [50 minutes by car from the Resort], visiting the historical centre, that incorporates the elegant fashion district (Via Montenapoleone and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele) and exploring its jewels: "Teatro alla Scala" the world's most famous opera house, "Brera Art Gallery" full of inestimable masterpieces of Italian art, "Castello Sforzesco and Duomo" the gothic cathedral. There are many refined restaurants, bars and fashionable clubs.

Turin [1,15 hour by car from the Resort], is one of the most romantic and aristocratic city in Italy. You can find high level cultural and artistic treasures. Between great baroque palaces and high- tech modern structures. You can find many interesting restaurants and clubs along the river where all the trendy people spend their evening.
